Rocks rock! And so does Eterna. Do you know why they rock? That's because they come from Brazil and all the good prog/power bands always come from Brazil. If you don't believe me, call Andre Matos or Kiko Loureiro or Edu Falaschi or Aquiles Priester or Thiago Bianchi.Poohkali
Papyrus has always been my favorite Eterna album, because even though the sound production could be much better and even though the songwriting is not very consistent, band's two best songs can be found on it; "Working Man" and "Mary's Son". If you like Brazilian power metal in general, I find it very hard to believe that you wouldn't like "Mary's Son" as well. The chorus is so damn catchy and good that even on the day you turn eight hundred and seventy-four, you will still remember that chorus. The only bad thing I can say about that song is that it was made only in 1999, so the people who lived before that, didn't have a chance to hear it. Ever. Not even once. No. They just died and they didn't even know what a killer song would be released in 1999. That just sucks.
Another standout supertrooper songs include the long, slow and epic title track "Papyrus". Symphony X influences are strongly present. Then there is this song called "Euthanasia" for those who like harmonized vocals. ("Youth in Asia" like Ali G would say.) I don't know who are all those people who are singing on that song, but they all sound amazing. If it's just the lead singer Leandro Caçoilo, then it's even more amazing. And do you know which other song I must mention? No you don't, but I do. That's why I am going to mention it soon. Now I will mention it. "Corruption". "Corruption"... You can kind of hear already from the song title that it is going to rule. I mean, have you ever heard a sucky song called "Corruption"? I haven't. Unlike "Papyrus", "Corruption" is a fast song and that is good, because the world needs more fast songs.
One more song I must mention; "Da Pacem Domine". Not because it would be the best song of all time, but because it is so goddamn annoying. I can easily listen to it to for a couple of minutes, but to repeat "da pacem domine, da pacem nomine" for seven and a half minutes drives me crazy. And yet on one of the reviews of this album "Da Pacem Domine" was lifted as the best song of the album. That just goes to show how different we all are and how different songs we like. When you have listened to this album, let me know how did Da Pacem work for you.
Brazilians on Scarlet Records. DARK AVENGER had been the first to establish this connection and proved that it does work out very, very well and ETERNA are the second proof of it. The White Metal-quartet combines Power Metal with progressive passages and some symphonic undertones, using two vocalists, one with a quite high, the other with a deeper, powerful voice, which gives the music of their second album "Papyrus" (according to infos from Brazil there had been one before it) a very interesting touch.Alex
To get the first impression of just all of that you won't have to listen far, because the opening "Working Man" is a prime example of the symbiosis of the influences and the vocalists. "Mary's Son" then is real genius, the verses alternating between slower mid-tempo and mid-paced double-bass (and the higher voice), the two-voiced chorus thundering underlaid with double-bass and an almost playful melody, very good!
But that's not been all, my friends, the Senhores do Brazil still have an ace up their sleeve, which is titled "Da Pacem Domine", which even tops "Mary's Son". Slower and more epic, they are presenting us with the rougher voice and keyboard-underlaid Metal, culminating in a grand, two-voiced chorus again, great!
After the good ballad "The War Is Over!" "Euthanasia" is combining a bit of DREAM THEATER and SYMPHONY X over driving double-bass and organ before taking a two-song-time-out, not bad, yet anything but spectacular...
"Resurrection" surprises with deep, quite theatrical vocals and a slow-paced rhythm, almost solemn, while the two-part "Papyrus" with its almost eight minutes of playing time is a true epic.
So, with ETERNA another glittering diamond has been unearthed in the Brazilian jungle, which doesn't stand back to DARK AVENGER in any way, go out and get it!
El disco tiene de todo, alguna balada como esta:
Y momentos más poderosos:
Como dije antes, dicen que este es el mejor disco de esta banda, y seguramente que a algún cabezón amigo le gustará.
Que lo disfrute, entonces...
