Bueno, ya presenté hoy a estos brasileros, y este álbum es en realidad muy parecido a su antecesor "Papyrus", así que si aquel les gustó este también les gustará.
"Papyrus", the second album of the Brazilians of ETERNA had hit me like a bomb, Power Metal with progressive sounds, two singers, great song-material, I was most pleased when "The Gate" now came into my mailbox. Well, the computer-cover can't keep up with the predecessor but anyway, it's about the music.Alex
And the music is all in all more progressive than on the previous CD. The Power-parts have been reduced a bit and now there are some more break-y passages in the sound which is not always a lucky strike in here because you lose track of things sometimes and get lost within the songs. Besides the snare sound is not good at all, it's terribly resounding and takes some of the pressure and the keyboards are not fully keeping up the standard of quality.
But let's turn to the positive! If you can keep track there is a high compositional standard, most of all the Power Metal-sequences are really rocking. The melodies are very well-developed and with Leandro Cacolia and drummer Danilo Lopes you have two extremely good singers who share the job at the microphone and can absolutely convince you with one more raw and one rather melodic/high voice.
Plus, songs like the incredibly varied "Fight" or the super-catchy "Shine" are one more evidence of the maturity the Brazilians keep in their compositions, apart from one or two pieces that are not really masterpieces.
Even if "The Gate" can't keep up with "Papyrus" it's still something very interesting that mostly suffers from their production which should not make fans back off because the songs are really good.
Como dije antes, dicen que este es el mejor disco de esta banda, y seguramente que a algún cabezón amigo le gustará.
Que lo disfrute, entonces...
Lo que sí, los amigos deberían avisarles que sus tapas son muy muy feas!
