Originally formed in Rio de Janeiro in 1991 by Little David, Ze Lima and Fred Castro. The Anima born in a group of a friends who needed to express their ideas, feelings and themselves musically, without caring about musical styles or tendencies, trying to reach the pure essence of music. So they looked for good musicians capable to do the task. After many "ins and outs", Flavio Araujo joined the band and Anima made the 1st CD (Tempus Stetisse) through their friend and mecenas, Jorge Alegrio. After a while and lots of gigs, comes the 2nd CD (Singularities) that has the blessing hands of Mr. Lincoln Olivetti. Little David and Flavio Araujo left the band. Forcing Anima to find Ricado Lima in New York. So in 1999, the 3rd CD is born (The book of comedy). Now returning to its original formation, The Anima rearranges old songs and brings new ones to target the brazilian heart in everyone. Spiced with eletronic effects and rhythms, that never were out of the score, the band now has new power, firmly securing total freedom in making progressive music nowadays. In the new Show and Live DVD, Anima plays Ariel, Leviathan, Seasons, Snow Kiss, Candle of Thoughts, Tunnel of Light, Black Hole, Violet, The Old Man Goes e My Place . Members: Fred Castro - Drums and Percussion Began studying classic percussion at Villa-Lobos Institute. Night Musician. Played also at Corredor Polones. Influences: Rush, Eloy, Pink Floyd e Yes. Although being essentially a prog rock band, in this work Anima made quite a few concessions. "Ariel," for example, is a good approach to fusion, perhaps because of Gilson's sax special appearance. "Leviathan" has Latin lyrics, something rare in Brazilian music. Homage to some classical music works in "Reflection" and the instrumental epic "Seasons" closes this well-received work in the effervescent Brazilian prog rock scene of the '90s.Allmusic
Unfortunately ANIMA deserved much more attention that they enjoyed throughout their career. The band was formed in Rio De Janeiro by bassist/singer Little David, guitarist Ze Lima and drummer Fred Castro in 1991. Numerous auditions for the keyboardist spot would follow with Flavio Araujo being the chosen one.The band recorded a two-track demo, catching the attention of collector Jorge Alegrio, who financed their first full-length release. This would come out in 1992 under the title ''Tempus Stetisse'' on Jade Records.Psarros
Trying to capture the real essence of music,ANIMA recommend you a sweet approach to Symphonic/Art Rock saturrated in melody and extensive instrumental passages. With influences coming from CAMEL and mid-70's GENESIS as well as some hints from the Neo Prog territory,''Tempus Stetisse'' is a work where melodic HACKETT-ish guitars meet groovy bass lines, acoustic guitars are mixed with symphonic keys, while the dramatic interplays and atmospheric synth-filled passages are also present and strong.Though not that complicated, the album is trully inspired and well-performed with catchy arrangements without losing a single minute its progressive approach.Vocals are in English and they are also nicely performed without evident traces of a Brazilian accent.ANIMA were playing and performing long before famous Brazilian acts like TEMPUS FUGIT or AETHER even appeared in the horizon and their style could have been a big influence for the later Brazilian Symphonic/Art Rock scene. Highly recommended and definitely essential!
